Harvard Book Store welcomes Peter Orner—author of seven acclaimed books including Maggie Brown & Others, Love and Shame and Love, Esther Stories, and Am I Alone Here?, and chair of the English and Creative Writing Department at Dartmouth College—for a discussion of his new novel The Gossip Columnist's Daughter. He will be joined in conversation by Tova Mirvis—author of the novel We Would Never, as well as three previous novels, Visible City, The Outside World and The Ladies Auxiliary, a national bestseller.

Since his 2001 debut, Esther Stories, his wide-ranging body of work has been met with rapturous acclaim, and he’s been hailed “one of the most distinctive voices of his generation.” The author of seven books, Orner has been a finalist for a slew of awards, including the PEN/Hemingway, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the NYPL Young Lions Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the PEN Award for the Art of the Essay. Now he delivers his first novel in fifteen years—a tender, comic, and moving family drama set within a real-life cold case, THE GOSSIP COLUMNIST’S DAUGHTER. Peter will be in conversation with author Chris Abani

Peter will be joined in conversation by Richard Schiff. Along with a discussion and audience Q&A, Peter will also sign copies of The Gossip Columnist's Daughter.

This is a ticketed in-store event with limited amphitheater-style seating.

  • Doors open at 6:30pm.

  • Cost of a $5 general admission ticket can be applied towards your purchase of the featured event book or any product in our café the night of an event.

  • Cost of a book bundle ticket reflects the total cost of the feature event book (MSRP plus tax). Each book bundle ticket guarantees ticket holders one (1) copy of the feature event book.

  • Books will also be for sale at the event.

EARFULL -- A performance series featuring writers and musicians doing their respective things in an intimate setting.

WRITERS read from their new books, or about-to-be books, or right from their crumpled up notes. 

MUSICIANS range from harpists to horn blowers, from singer-songwriters to full-on rock bands.

FOOD & DRINK are always available and socializing between acts is a must - because the camaraderie we create among the audience and the artists is really at the heart of every EARFULL SHOW!
